I Heart Maypoles

The photograph has a description but not a date.
It says this is May Queen Ellen Lied Berg, 20, of Little Neck, Long Island NY, in the middle of brownie groups at the Old Westbury Gardens.

The back of the photo indicates the film was developed in Winona, Minnesota.

I've always heard of May Poles, but I've never seen one. Is there a specific order to how the streamers are wrapped?
