Sewing with towels

I'm away from my scanner so I'm limited with what I can post.
Hopefully I'm not repeating these images.

The current theme on The Purse Project is beach bags.
I mean, 'tis the season and all.
But a girl needs a cute bikini cover-up too, right?

How about beach coats made from towels?
I love sewing with towels.

I wish I had more information about which magazine this was published in.
I assume it's from the 60's.

How about mother-daughter coats made from Turkish towels?

Or here's a groovy beach robe, 1967.

Is it just me or is the red & white coat on the right in the last pattern for when you're expecting.....washcloths maybe?

(hee-hee) love these patterns. They remind me of rummaging in my mom's sewing stuff and also remind me that I have her sewing maching sitting and waiting patiently for me, just to the right of my feet. Must get it out and play!

Showing my age--my mom made me one of these swimsuit cover-ups in the late 50's

Aah, the memories. I had a towelling cover up similar to the top one here in Oz when I was 17 back in the 60s. It was not home-made but store-bought. It was yellow and black towelling with a black fringe around the bottom and a black sash (similar to the belt of a man's dressing gown) for around the middle. Thinking about it now more than 45 years later, I can still feel how good I felt I looked in it! :-) :-) :-). Thanks for the memories, Barb.

I can remember my first official 2 piece bathing suit was made from a towel! I was in my "tweens" back then in the EARLY 60's and it was so cute. I thought I was just the cat's meow let me tell ya! Ahhhhh....the memories! Love your blog immensely!

Kristen: I appreciate your comment. I wish I could email you, but your comment comes up without an email address or a blog ID. I would love to see a pic or a pattern of a towel swimsuit--wow, how cool is that?!!
