Vintage Apron from Neckties

I wanted to make my apron from ties even before I saw this one in Fit to Be Tied: Vintage Ties of the Forties and Early Fifties, by Rod Dyer. This is a fabulous book--I will show more pics in the next week or so. My version of the tie apron in the following post... Posted by Picasa

Sigh... this brings back memories. My dad, who was a pretty crafty guy back in the day, made an apron out of old ties back in the late 50's for my mom. I remember there being some nifty ties from the 40's and 50's in it. I don't know what became of this apron, but how I wish I could have it now. Not having stuff like this now is probably the reason why I'm afraid to throw anything away today! Also I seem to remember Jean-Paul Gaultier using this idea a few yeaers back- he designed a really cute skirt out of ties (there may have been a vest also, but I don't remember).
